featured student athlete of the week

Junior Quarterback Jaden Stanley - South Grand Prairie High School

I was able to catch up with Jaden Stanley, quarterback of the South Grand Prairie Warriors. He's completed 119/201 passes for 1,538 yards and 12 touchdowns while also rushing for 532 yards on 80 carries and 6 touchdowns on the season. For someone like me who has seen and also coached Jaden in his youth days, I'm not at all surprised by his toughness and competitiveness. He has had a will to win and dominate on the football field at an early age. He started at wide receiver in his sophomore campaign but transitioned to the starting quarterback for his junior season by being one of the best all around athletes on South Grand Prairie's roster. With great parents that support him in everything he does he has always been the kid that stands out on the football field. Here at Texas Student Athlete Academy we like to highlight the up and coming student athletes in the area throughout their careers and below read my interview with Jaden about his 2022 season and some of his personal and team goals.

Interview

1. What have you learned so far this 2022 season?
Jaden - "I've learned that you have to be passionate and stay focused no matter the circumstances. Do what you love because there's going to be some ups and down during the season."
2.What do you think it takes to achieve success?
Jaden - "Every play won't go the way I want it to go, so I make sure that I stay communicating with my teammates and it makes us a better team overall"
3. What’s the biggest difference between your sophomore season when you played wide receiver and running back to now your junior season you're the starting QB?
Jaden - "being a receiver helped me learned coverages and where to sit down to get open on routes. 7on7 with TSAA has helped me a lot during the off season recognizing safety movement and where the passing windows are"
4. What are your personal goals for the rest of the season? Jaden - "making sure I stay healthy, and I want to  pass over 2,000 yards and definitely keep our win streak going on into the playoffs"

5. Starting 0-5 and now y’all have won your last 4, what do you think changed?

Jaden - "first 5 games vs Mansfield Timberview,  Coppell, Rockwall, Arlington Martin, and Mansfield high were some tough opponents but it prepared us for district play. Losing all those games by a total of 33 points just showed us that we were 1 to 2 possessions away from winning those. Learning from every loss has helped us improve week after week."
6. What college do you want to attend or interested in?
Jaden - "of course every kid wants to attend the big schools, but my dream school is the University of Oklahoma. I also will accept any college that has the best offer for me. I can play wherever and be a factor on the field."
7. Being the starting quarterback comes with a lot of pressure. How do you handle pressure?
Jaden - "I tune out a lot of the pressure from playing quarterback. Football is fun to me and I've being playing for so long that I'm used to being in pressure situations. I've been playing football since the age 4 so its nothing to me"
8. What’s something you say to your teammates before every game?
Jaden - "I try my best to make sure everyone is hyped up and to enjoy the moment. I remind my teammates to have fun because you don't get to play this game forever."

About Us

The goal of this academy is to develop and promote the ideals of responsibility, hard work, sportsmanship, teamwork and fellowship within a safe and positive environment in this community. The individual growth of our community's children is enhanced through the spirit of competition, discipline and fair play. These goals will be accomplished by providing a structured program designed to educate both players and parents in all aspects of football, academics, and life after football.  We are fully committed to providing a program that maintains the highest standards and guarantees a fun, positive experience for everyone involved.

Different student athletes will be covered throughout their football careers to make sure they get the proper mentoring and advice on life after football. Bringing back the exceptional junior high and high school sports experience in communities is another goal of ours. We want to knit the community together by holding everyone accountable for training , summer workouts, team workouts, and enhancing their overall sports experience. Communities are diverse and we strive to improve the focus in which everyone is on the same page for the best of the communities student athletes.

Texas Student Athlete Academy is a third party training and mentoring program for youth to adolescent student athletes in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.

Our Program

For each program, communication with local coaching staff can help sports-specific athletes achieve individualized goals. While not required, summer performance programs can help any athlete achieve goals, avoid injuries and optimize performance in the sports they love.

These athletes are trained daily in a small group format concentrating on speed, strength, power, agility and conditioning. Each session is customized daily by providing the proper speed development, strength development and energy system development protocols designed for each training phase.

Athletic speed development includes linear speed, lateral speed and agility, quickness, hip mobility and conditioning. Athletic strength development includes core strengthening, injury prevention, explosiveness, flexibility and general strength as it pertains to athletes.

Each athlete’s strength prescription is designed specifically for the athlete based on age, gender, experience and sport. All athletes are screened and performance tested every 10 weeks in order to track progression throughout the program.

7 on 7 is another season we run to help our skilled players learn the game of football.

Media - We cover high school sports and feature different student athletes in the DFW metroplex.

Eye for Talent

Summer of 2013 I met this 5’3 125 pound kid named Michael Henderson while checking the mail at my apartments. I asked him did he play football, he said “yes” but he played in Arlington. I then asked “well who do I need to talk to get you to play for the IBFA Raiders here in Irving”. He stated his mom and dad. At that moment I knew that my team had something special joining them in the fall. I can win a championship with this kid on the field I thought to myself, you can tell he had some talent.
I go on to meet Dion and Michael Henderson Sr., two very supportive parents. They agreed to let Mike play for me that season. It was a big convenience because he stayed in the same apartments as me at the time. I told them that I would take great care of him, he will get a lot of touchdowns and he’ll win a City Championship before he’s done playing for me. 2013 didn’t go as well as planned for the Raiders finishing 2-7, but the talent of Michael stood out the entire season. He lost weight before the season to make the 130 pound weight limit and went on to run for over 600 yards and  10 touchdowns with lots of long highlight runs.
Now let’s flash forward to 2014. Mike has grown to 5’7” 175 lbs at age 12. He can no longer run the football because he’s over the league weight requirement and he doesn’t want to play youth football anymore because he can’t run the ball. Weeks leading up to the season I asked him “hey you know if you come back we’ll win the championship this year right?” Mike didn’t know for sure if he still wanted to play, taking on a load of playing football at his junior high as well.
After starting the fall season without #7 on the field, Mike then decided to come back and play for the Raiders. Playing a stand up defensive end position, his teammates were thrilled to have him back. We went  9-1 that season and won the City Championship  like I told him one day we would. Mike finished that game with 8 tackles and 1 fumble recovery.
Flash forward to 2017 now. Michael Henderson is the starting quarterback for Ranchview High School as a sophomore. He seen playing time as a freshman rushing for 99 yards and 2 touchdowns. He just finished up his sophomore campaign with 560 passing yards, 593 rushing yards and 14 total touchdowns.
Michael is standing at 6’3” 220 pounds, with rare speed and size advantage over his opponents. He’s been invited to the highly touted Nike Camp that comes to the Frisco Star this summer. He has plans to play football in college and potentially go on to the NFL. Be on the lookout for offers to be pouring in from major universities real soon.
There’s no doubt that everyone around town knew that Michael had a special talent. I feel honored to have coached him in his younger years and I’m not surprised by his early high school success. We here at Texas Student Athlete Academy hope for nothing but the best for Michael Henderson and his family  and that he continues on to be successful Student Athlete in his community and on the field.

A week later after this article was written, March 15, 2018 Michael Henderson offered by the University of Oklahoma for a running back position. March 19th, the University of Florida offered him to play quarterback.
Henderson has over 40 offers as of January 14, 2019

Time to Step Up and Change a Community

I was conducting a research to find out what’s going on with the city of Irving Football programs. 3 major schools who compete in the 6A division of football in Texas.

The 3 schools combined records over the past 10 years are as follows from 2007 to 2017

Irving Tigers 29 wins 83 losses

Irving MacArthur Cardinals 47 wins 67 losses

Irving Nimitz Vikings 34 wins 81 losses 1 tie

The combined record in the past 10 years for these teams is

110 wins, 231 losses and 1 tie.

It’s safe to say maybe because the players at these schools are not being developed into exceptional athletes. It’s also safe to say that the majority of these same players have also played youth football in the Irving Boys Football Association while also continuing to play in junior high.

Now the questions stands, what happened to Football being the backbone of a community? What happened to hard off season and summer workouts so that when fall season comes the results will show?

Now we as adults can easily blame the coaches, the schemes, having 3 schools in one town as an excuse but maybe it’s the community itself. The direction of the city is not about player development and competitiveness amongst one another.

The next step is what can be done to change it? Or will a community allow it to keep going on for another 10 years? These are the questions parents, coaches, teachers, principals, and fans of the game must ask themselves.

One day it will be your child out there on varsity as a Senior, he may play or he may not play at all. You will have to look him in the eyes and tell him good game or good season if it’s not because it’s your son.  Then you as a parent will have to ask yourself did you do everything to provide the best opportunity for your son, did you make sure he got extra training and put that extra work in to play at a high level? Or did you just let him play the sport and not become better at it?

Football isn’t everything but it is the backbone of numerous towns in Texas. As a community let’s start over and fix the problem at hand. These kids of today are the future.

Featured Student Athlete of the Week: RBKeilon Elder  Duncanville (SR)

Question: What is the reason you entered in playing football?

Answer: I was groomed into playing football. As I got older I gained more love for the game. I started working harder and training.

Question: In some major games, how do you handle pressure?

Answer: I don’t get caught up in the hype. I take it slow, and I take game week one day at a time and one game at a time. During the game I wait for the defense to get worn down then something is eventually going to pop open.

Question: Which is your best player and why?

Answer: Adrian Peterson is my favorite player because he’s physical and faster than everybody. He runs hard every time he gets the ball and I try to do the same myself.

Question: What is one football moment that you can never forget?

Answer: I was 14 years old playing for the Truth at a Thanksgiving tournament, 2 games on Saturday and 2 games on Sunday. I’ve never played that many football games before in one weekend! I’ll never forget when I scored on an 80 yard run. I also won the championship with Truth football team that season.

Question: How does it feel to hear cheers of supporters?

Answer: First varsity game of 2017 it felt good because more people know who we are as a team and know me personally. Junior high kids even look up to me. I never had the feeling before to where younger kids actually know who you are and support you because you’re the starting running back at Duncanville high.

Question: Do you have a weekly workout regime?

Answer: On Mondays and Wednesdays I go to 24 your fitness with my dad to do legs and upper body. I train much harder in the off season, I have to preserve myself during the week to stay game ready. I do watch film everyday.

Question: You recently received an offer from Grambling University, a very prestigious black college, how did it feel getting that offer?

Answer: Grambling came up to Duncanville and talked to me the weekend of Grambling vs Prairie View, they told me that they liked what they saw on film and that I’m a good runner. They offered me a scholarship same day. It made me happy because I finally received my first offer division 1 offer.

Message from the President

I also spoke with Ray Elder, Keilon’s dad. He’s a very humble dad who is happy that his son is doing the things he’s able to do by hard work and dedication.  He told me that he started Keilon at age 3 with football and noticed that he was more advanced than your average 3 year old. He said that he knew he had something special once he became older.

Texas Student Athlete Academy would like to thank the Elder family for allowing us to conduct this Q&A interview. We would like to also wish Keilon the best with his future football and academic career.

-President Cortney Carter Sr.
